Plug-in hybrid cars and trucks live in a convenient middle ground of the car world, slotted between traditional gas-powered vehicles and full electrics. They can travel short distances running entirely on electric power, typically ranging from 10-30 miles depending on the make and model. Yet, when a longer trip factors into your plans, a plug-in hybrid’s gasoline-fed motor springs into action to provide additional range once the electric power is depleted.

In most cases, the overall driving range of a plug-in hybrid meets or exceeds the driving range of a normal gas-powered car, helping to avoid range anxiety – the worry that an electric car might not have the juice needed to complete a journey. Because they have smaller battery packs – and more limited electric range – recharging a plug-in hybrid usually takes far less time than a full-electric vehicle, too.

Ride has compiled a list of every single plug-in hybrid on sale in the U.S. We’ve included key information, such as the vehicle’s base price, how many miles it can travel under electric power, and fuel economy when running on its gasoline engine. We’ve also included each car’s EPA-rated mpge (Miles Per Gallon of Gasoline Equivalent) figure, which combines the efficiency rating of a car’s electric motor with its gas engine. This formula is applied to fully electrified vehicles, too.

Remember to keep checking back, because we’ll be adding additional models as they become available in the months ahead.
