At its best, riding a motorcycle is a spontaneous experience. You get on your bike and go when the spirit moves you, with nothing between you and the open road.

With an electric motorcycle, the experience is not quite as spontaneous, and this has everything to do with getting the bike charged for use. Many electric bikes require a charging time of several hours. This can make all-day riding impossible, and it can limit your ability to enjoy long-distance touring.

Lightning Motorcycles is planning on rolling out an electric bike that offers more convenient charging options. The company’s upcoming Strike motorcycle will provide three levels of charging. This allows for quicker charging, and it also enables bike owners to charge their motorcycles from a variety of locations.

Choose Your Level

The Lightning Strike offers 150 miles of range and quick DC charging.

The Lightning Strike motorcycle features a Combined Charging System that allows the bike to accommodate Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 charging from a single charge port. This gives owners flexible charging options.

Level 1 charging is the slowest option, but the upside it that it can be done via your household’s 110-volt outlet. Strike owners can use the charging cable that’s included with the bike to get a full charge at home. It’s a convenient way of getting the bike charged overnight while you sleep.

With Level 2 charging, owners can get the Strike charged while they’re on the road. Most pubic charging stations in the U.S. use Level 2 chargers. These chargers are found in a diverse range of locations, including shopping centers, grocery stores and workplaces.

The quickest option is Level 3 charging. With Level 3 DC fast charging, the Strike can recharge over 100 miles of range in a scant 20 minutes.

Pricing for the Lightning Strike motorcycle is expected to start at $12,998.

Many other electric bikes offer one or two levels of charging, but only a handful offer all three charging options. This gives the Lightning Strike an edge in a growing new market.
