Potholes are a villainous group. They can wreak havoc on our cars and cause danger for two-wheeled riders. During the winter, when it’s snowy, and rainy, and cold, and road conditions are already miserable, that’s when potholes flourish.
Winter brings nasty potholes, which cause considerable damage to cars and dangers to riders on e-scooters and bicycles
Traditional fixes are temporary and ineffective
EZ Street Asphalt offers an all-weather, permanent solution
When road crews go out to fix potholes (yes, it happens), they fill them with a temporary patching product to hold through the season, which often, it doesn’t. A permanent repair can’t be made until the weather improves because the traditional hot asphalt mix required is unstable in cold weather.
Two Swedish-American brothers came up an all-weather solution: EZ Street Asphalt. Okay, the name is a bit cheesy, but admit it made you smile. Described as a quick, permanent asphalt, EZ Street is a cold product that’s impermeable to the ravages of harsh weather. Unlike hot asphalt, any unused portion can go back in the stockpile, reducing waste. In addition, the “advanced technology” stuff is made with bio-diesel, which treads more lightly on the environment. And, because the crew only has to go out once, cities could save big on expenses in terms of time, manpower and, of course, money.
EZ Street Asphalt has proved its mettle in such inhospitable climates as Alaska, the Yukon and the Outback. Now produced by Conzept AS in Norway, the material comes with a guarantee the repair is permanent. That’s excellent news. As autonomous cars (hopefully) become the norm, smooth streets will become even more imperative for safety.
Now, if we could only get those road crews out there to fix the potholes.
