We don’t typically think of e-bikes as being ideal for those seeking family transportation. However, there are choices on the market that offer a surprising amount of utility. Bunch is a manufacturer that produces cargo bikes, and the company’s roster includes models you can use to transport kids or dogs.

  • Bunch recently rolled out two new e-bikes.
  • One is a cargo bike that can carry up to six kids.
  • The other is a bike aimed specifically at dog owners.

Family-friendly biking

Bunch’s new dog-friendly bike is called the Bark, and it’s a collaboration between Bunch and Bark, a company whose mission is to “make dogs as happy as they make us.” The Bark’s cargo box is equipped with a swinging door and a folding cushion made of soft foam. The box uses a leash with clips on both ends to keep your pet securely stationed inside. A locking bench in the cargo area can be used as storage or as seating for two kids. It can also be removed if you want to use the cargo box solely for hauling your four-legged friend. The bike also includes a pair of Doggles, goggles made to protect your dog’s eyes.

Offering the ability to transport six kids, Bunch’s Preschool Cargo Bike is the largest in its lineup. It comes in a cheerful school-bus yellow and the bike’s cargo box has two benches and six seatbelts for secure travel. The box has a front door that easily opens, allowing kids to get onboard without help from adult. The door has a slide latch that keeps it tightly closed while the bike is in motion. Worried about getting a flat tire? Don’t be. This bike rides on thick, puncture-resistant tires that are sturdy enough to tackle gravel and road debris.

Both bikes are powered by a 500-watt electric motor and they aren’t exactly inexpensive. Pricing starts at $3,495. The Bark will only be available for a limited time; Bunch says it will be offered until September 30.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Bunch claims that “with a Bunch cargo bike in your life, you won’t miss the SUV.” They may be overstating the case a bit, but there’s no denying the utility that these bikes provide.
