In Episode 4 of Ride News Now with Alison Haislip, Volkswagen has an electric-powered hit on its hands, robots are going racing, and ride-shares might not be as appealing as you might think.

  • Let’s start with the Volkswagen ID.3, the German automaker’s upcoming electric car that’s sparking a sales frenzy. In only 24 hours, this chunky-looking hatch had more than 10,000 people put down a deposit to own one, more than a year ahead of its arrival next year.
  • Next, the robot revolution is coming to the racing world. Roborace will be an entirely autonomous race series, where electric cars battle for glory minus any pesky humans getting in the way. The green flag drops in 2021 – maybe a human can at least wave the flag?
  • Last but not least, despite the convenience of ride-share companies like Uber and Lyft, a study found people aren’t ready to toss their car keys. In fact, car ownership is on the rise, and ride-shares are often being used as a replacement for walking or public transit.
