In this episode of Ride News Now with Alison Haislip, an EV startup claims insane charging times, Tesla cars will try to fix themselves, and Panasonic needs to get its margins into shape.

  • First up, we have a Swiss electric car company that wants to produce electric vehicles with lightning fast charging speeds. The brand is called Piëch, and it’s Mark Zero electric sports car needs just four minutes and 40 seconds to charge its battery up to 80%. We’ll believe it when we see it, but it’s definitely cool if true.
  • Next up, Tesla vehicles now have the ability to diagnose what ails them. The onboard computer system will know when something is wrong, attempt to figure out the problem, and then order any appropriate parts which will be sent to a nearby repair facility.
  • Lastly, Panasonic is having a rough go at building battery packs for electric cars. It’s not the building that’s the problem, it’s the selling because these things aren’t making any money. Panasonic posted a 37% profit loss recently, and that’s after seeing a 7% increase in sales.
