In this episode of Ride News Now with Alison Haislip, one state wants to up-charge EV drivers, another state wants to ban gas-powered vehicles, and we found an EV lease deal that seems too good to be true.

  • Let’s start with with a downright shocking EV lease deal. A California dealership is ready to hand over a new Bolt EV for just $106 per month. You’ll need to turn in $6,000 as a deposit to get that price though, but it’s still a great deal on a vehicle with a 238-mile all-electric driving range.
  • Speaking of pricing, the state of Illinois may look to raise the registration fee for electric vehicles. Lawmakers have presented a bill that would raise the cost to register all manner of road machine, but it’s EVs that would take the biggest financial hit. Most cars would go up $50, while electric vehicles would jump from $17 up to $1,000. The goal is to use registration fees to replace the lost tax revenue that comes with gas-drinking cars and trucks.
  • Finally, California is examining a ban on gasoline-powered vehicles. Despite having the strictest emission standards, California also has the worst air quality. Still, this is a state filled with very wealthy people that love their classic and exotic cars. Don’t expect a ban on gas-powered cars anytime soon.
