In this episode of Ride News Now with Alison Haislip, Elon Musk is a switch-flip away from saving the world, an autonomous company is making billions, and you can now own your very own Bird scooter.
- We kick things off with Elon Musk. He says his robo-taxi revolution is ready to happen. There’s a chip embedded in Tesla models that will make them fully autonomous, it just needs to be activated. Musk says that we’re a year out from that taking place. We’re not holding our breath on this one though.
- Next, the autonomous outfit Cruise Automation is bringing in buckets of bucks. Billions, in fact. GM purchased them for a billion back in 2016, and now new investment brings even more dough to the table. If they can automate as well as they raise cash, maybe autonomous cars are closer than we thought…
- Finally, the urban mobility company Bird is looking to offer its wares for sale now. Initially, a Bird scooter was just something you rented. Or tossed into a Venice, California canal. Now though, Bird wants to sell an updated version of its electric scooter and it wears a $1,300 price tag. Or you can just rent one for 10 cents per minute.
